Classification of blogs

Each blog posts are often displayed in reverse chronological order and their contents include personal views, discussions, observations and other topics.

According to Chettri (2011),  there are different types of blogs such as

• Personal Blogs: This is a most common type of blogs and like sharing thoughts or ideas on a specific niche. These are just expressions or reactions of the blogger towards the topic on which he or she is blogging.
• Corporate and Organizational Blogs: Sometimes blogs are also used as an internal means of communication where it is specific to the members of the company or an organization. For example, blogs that are used effectively for improving brand value or market share of product. These blogs can also be considered under this category.
• Blogs by Genre: When blogging is done by considering a specific industry or a genre then these blogscomes under this category. All the travel related blogs, education and politics related blogs, music, quizzing,art and law related blogs are also called blogs by Genre. 
• Blogs by Media types: When blogs are posted which comprises of different media types like, Videos, Photos,photolog, for video vblog, for sketches sketchblog etc. 
• Blogs by devise: Sometimes blogs published on internet by using different devices are called device specific blogs. Suppose for a log. Mobile or PDS is used then they are called as moblog and comes under this category. 

Margaret Simons has come up with nine different types of online sites that classify as blogs.

• Pamphleteering blogs/Political blogs: It is a grand old tradition. It's where an individual or a group of individuals put out a brief essay arguing a point, or expressing a strong point of view since the printing press was invented.

• Digest Blog: Blogs that people look at when they feel it's not really adding anything, it's just aggregating stuff. Bloggers tend to point or to summarize or to collect material from elsewhere, sometimes, well often usually in the mainstream media, but also from other blogs. Sometimes they include a little bit of commentary, but usually they're just collecting material on a single topics so that you can click on the links and go elsewhere.

• Advocacy Blog: Blog that tends to be pushing a particular point of view on a particular issue, it like being pamphleteering but it's usually by a vested interest group, either an advocacy group, a commercial organization, or sometimes a political party and it's actually actively pushing in a fairly didactic fashion, a point of view. 
• Popular Mechanics blog: A fascinating collection of information on how to do stuff, with mechanics and how things worked and so on. Blog about any speciality you care very often to list, from quilting to gardening, to photography, to scuba diving. They're done by enthusiasts very often but they are an extraordinarily rich source of information on how to do stuff. 
• Exhibition Blog(Vanity publishing): Maintained by craftspeople, artists, writers, and they bring their work to a wider audience. 
• Gatewatcher Blog: The small group of blogs which keep an eye on the media. There's a sall group of blogs which now find their purpose by watching how the media does that job. The blog run by people who are experts in their own field, and they actually critique the reporting of their fields by the media. 
• Diary: Blogger who put snapshots with their family, bits of news and views about their personal lives up online. 
• Advertisement: Blog that put out there by commercial companies flogging a product. Some are created by the commercial companies and are thinly-veiled advertisements and sometimes the commercial companies will pay the bloggers to spruik their product and so what might have started off with a blog in the wild, becomes just an advertisement. Nothing new about the function.
• News Blog: Blogs do break news, where bloggers are beginning to attend media conferences and have representer in different places. 

I prefer the system of Margaret Simons because it has more categories and is therefore more specific. The way she generalizes is also good because it targets a wider ranger of blogs in comparison to Chettri.
